The display apps
Status widgets and streak counters are pleasant ambient signals. They maintain a thread but create nothing. They are the wallpaper of a friendship.
The exchange apps
Anything that requires a response — a shared bottle, a turn-based game, a passed note — builds more connection than anything that merely displays. Exchange beats display.
The archive rule
Ask one question of any connection app: what does it leave behind after a year? Widgets leave nothing. Shared bottles leave a gallery.
