How to track your mood so the habit sticks
By Bottle Me
Mood tracking only pays off with enough entries to see a pattern. Everything below is aimed at reducing the cost of a single entry.
Record three things at most
A rough emotional tone, an energy level, and one contextual line — slept badly, big meeting, saw friends. Anything more and you will stop.
Log at a fixed anchor
Attach the entry to something you already do daily, like getting into bed. Time-of-day consistency matters more than time-of-day choice.
Review fortnightly, not daily
Daily review invites over-interpretation of noise. Every two weeks, scroll the timeline and look only for repeated shapes.
Frequently asked questions
- What if I miss a week?
- Resume without backfilling. Gaps are normal and harmless.
- Should I track triggers?
- One short contextual line is usually enough to reconstruct triggers later.
- Paper or app?
- Whichever you will actually keep; apps win on review, paper on ritual.
